Today is the 50th anniversary of the release of Chubby Checker’s “The Twist.”
To celebrate this seminal event in American popular culture, Checker will perform a free concert in his adopted home town, Philadelphia.
Philadelphians will gather near City Hall for a “twist-off.” Some will be twisting for the first time; others like they did on “American Bandstand” in West Philadelphia.
They all are “gonna twisty twisty twisty” until they turn the house Dilworth Plaza down.
Their goal: set a Guinness Book Record for the most people doing the Twist at the same time.
