Sen. Blanche Lincoln survives to fight on in the November general election. Lincoln defeated Lt. Gov. Bill Halter 52 percent to 47 percent.
Lincoln was in the cross-hairs of organized labor and progressives, who spent millions to “send her back to Arkansas.”
A senior White House official told Ben Smith of Politico it was not money well-spent:
Organized labor just flushed $10 million of their members’ money down the toilet on a pointless exercise. If even half that total had been well-targeted and applied in key House races across this country, that could have made a real difference in November.
Lincoln bucked the anti-incumbent tide (for now), but it’s far from smooth sailing ahead.
A Gallup poll found only three out of 10 registered voters are inclined to support incumbents.
The number is even lower in a new Washington Post/ABC News poll. Only 29 percent of Americans say they are inclined to vote for their congressional representative.
Come November, a lot of members of Congress may join their constituents on the unemployment line.
