The National Action Network’s 2010 National Convention is underway in New York City.
Tomorrow, Rev. Al Sharpton will convene “Measuring the Movement,” a national leadership forum focusing on measurable plans to advance the black agenda. The issues to be addressed include joblessness in the African American community, education reform and health care.
The roundtable participants will include:
- Rep. James Clyburn, House Majority Whip
- Lezli Baskerville, President and CEO, National Association for Equal Opportunity in Higher Education (NAFEO)
- Benjamin Jealous, President and CEO, NAACP
- Marc Morial, President and CEO, National Urban League
- Rep. Calvin Smyre, President, National Black Caucus of State Legislators
TV One’s Roland Martin will moderate the discussions. During an appearance on “Washington Watch,” Sharpton gave Roland his assignment:
So, that’s why we asked you to do it – which is why I’m not moderating it. I’m taking a seat with the other leaders. And you’ve got to press us, ‘cause I think this is a time Black America needs to not only press the President – which they should do – but press the leadership, the actors. Everybody needs to be accountable. This one size fits all is over. I think that I’ve got to state, “This is what National Action Network’s going to do in these areas … Black America’s prosecuting attorney is Roland Martin.The forum will be broadcast live on TV One from 11 am - 1 pm ET.
