So much for the best laid plans of mice and citizen journalists.
I had planned to share news and information about implementation of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, broadband deployment and adoption, 2010 Census, green jobs, fatherhood initiatives, health care reform and Weatherization Assistance Programs gathered during the National Conference of State Legislatures’ annual legislative summit.
Instead, I spent the week blogging about race.
Race also crashed President Barack Obama’s primetime news conference.
Obama’s response that “the Cambridge police acted stupidly” ignited a racial firestorm. Critics are stuck on stupidly.
In an interview with ABC’s “Nightline,” Obama said:
I have to say I am surprised by the controversy surrounding my statement, because I think it was a pretty straightforward commentary that you probably don’t need to handcuff a guy, a middle-aged man who uses a cane, who’s in his own home.
Well, at least my week will end on a post-racial note.
NCSL’s closing event will be held on the Rocky Steps at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. This is where the fictional Rocky Balboa trained for the World Heavyweight Championship fight against Apollo Creed.
Oh, wait.
