March is Women’s History Month, a time to celebrate fierce women who didn't know their place and fought for change.
Few were more determined to shake up the system than Shirley Chisholm, the first African American woman elected to Congress.
In 1972, Chisholm became the first woman to run for the Democratic presidential nomination. She announced her candidacy at Concord Baptist Church, the church in which I grew up.
Today, the Congressional Black Caucus will unveil the official portrait of Chisholm. The unveiling will be held in the Cannon Caucus Room, 345 Cannon House Office Building from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
