In "St. Louis Blues," blues great Bessie Smith sang:
I hate to see the evening sun go down
I hate to see the evening sun go down
It makes me think I’m on my last go-round
Sarah Palin was on her last go-round last night. With growing skepticism about her readiness to be Vice President, Palin had to deliver a solid performance in the vice presidential debate.
From the moment Palin walked onstage at Washington University in St. Louis looking like a million dollars and radiating charm, you knew it was going to be a long night for Joe Biden.
Yes, Palin is weak on foreign policy but what governor isn’t. Still, Sarah Barracuda flashed a smile and took a bite out of Biden:
It’s so obvious that I’m a Washington outsider and someone who’s just not used to the ways you guys operate, because you voted for the war and then you voted against it.
Now Palin is no policy wonk, but she showed a command of a wide range of national issues, including the Wall Street bailout, energy, subprime lenders, gay rights, government reform, and DC’s bipartisan culture of corruption.
It is clear that if Palin had five months rather than "five weeks" to prepare for the debate, she would have mopped the floor with Biden who has been marinating in the Senate for more than 35 years.
Conservative commentator Michelle Malkin wrote:
Sarah Palin looked presidential.
Joe Biden looked tired.Sarah made history.
Biden is history.
Like the St. Louis woman in W.C. Handy's classic, Palin more than held her own.
