As I write this, the fate of the Congressional deal on the bailout of Wall Street is unknown. The agreement reached earlier yesterday fell apart. President Bush reportedly said:
If money isn’t loosened up, this sucker could go down.
Bush needs to loosen up. He thinks the American people are suckers who can be scared into bailing out Wall Street firms that recklessly used exotic products to make a profit and raise capital.
Meanwhile, the Commission on Presidential Debates says the show must go on:
The Commission on Presidential Debates (CPD) is moving forward with its plan for the first presidential debate at the University of Mississippi in Oxford, Miss. this Friday, September 26. The plans for this forum have been underway for more than a year and a half. The CPD’s mission is to provide a forum in which the American public has an opportunity to hear the leading candidates for the president of the United States debate the critical issues facing the nation. We believe the public will be well served by having all of the debates go forward as scheduled.
It is also unknown whether John McCain will show up for tonight’s presidential debate. The Congressional Black Caucus Foundation will hold a "Presidential Debate Watch," hosted by Tom Joyner.
With 1,500 black folks in the room and some no doubt talking back to the TV monitors, the debate will be the best show in town.
