With states cracking down on illegal immigration, employers of illegal immigrants are going into overdrive. They are about to roll out a multi-million dollar TV ad campaign to try to bamboozle Americans about the joys of cheap illegal labor and amnesty.
Meanwhile, Maryland has joined Michigan and Oregon and made a U-turn on giving drivers’ licenses to illegal aliens.
Unlike Hawaii, Maine, New Mexico, Utah and Washington, which apparently didn’t get the memo that illegals’ free ride is over, Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley got it. O’Malley rejected a two-tier licensing scheme that would have sanctioned illegal aliens’ presence in the Free State.
Like New York Gov. Elliot Spitzer’s ill-fated plan, the Motor Vehicles Administration would have issued two licenses, one for legal residents and a separate one for illegals. But O’Malley said not so fast:
We'd become an attraction to people who feel they can easily obtain a license through fraudulent means because they have one less thing to prove.
So, while state and local elected officials offer solutions to address mounting concern about the high cost of illegal immigration, Sen. Hillary Clinton and Sen. Barack Obama are pandering to Hispanic voters. They continue to push a framework -- amnesty -- the American people have already rejected.
In a new Spanish-language TV ad, Obama tells illegals, get this:
Remember the dream that brought you or your parents to this country? . . . Now this is your country. Don't let anyone or anything take those hopes away.
Oh really? Dream on.
