Starting today, Colorado will begin to implement the nation’s toughest measure to verify that people who are applying for public benefits are in the country legally.
The new verification requirements come on the heels of the massive illegal immigrant marches that were supposed to wake up the “sleeping giant” and register one million new immigrant voters (and here).
Instead, the street protests have backfired (here and here). Americans who are already registered to vote are demanding that their state impose high hurdles to weed out illegal immigrants. To date, 27 states have passed legislation intended to restrict illegal immigrants’ access to public benefits.
And with House Republicans holding 21 field hearings over the next four weeks, the path to citizenship (read: “earned adjustment”) for an estimated 12 million illegals will remain a rocky road.
